With a rich history dating from the beginning of the 20th century, the stunning vista of Montalbera Winery sits uniquely across two of Piedmont's most notable winemaking regions: the Monferrato and the Langhe.
Originally from Langhe, the Morando family's passion for developing the area's viticulture and producing some of Piedmont's most sought-after and unique wines, has been a labour of love and dedication spanning generations.
The estate's expansive vineyards comprise more than 82 hectares of rolling Italian hillside, with 60% of their produce from the Ruché red grape varietal, growing alongside other varieties such as Barbera d'Asti, Grignolino and Viognier.
Planted on the property's lush hillsides, each vine receives uniquely different expositions and soil, from clay to limestone – which has been attributed to the multifaceted nature of each of their varietals. All agriculture work on the estate is done by hand, with vines varying in age from seven to 30 years.
Montalbera are also known for their Moscato d'Asti DOCG San Carlo, produced on the 15 hectare vineyards situated in founder Enrico Riccardo Morando's hometown of Castiglione Tinella. The moscato received its name from the Church of San Carlo located a few meters from the winery.
Montabera are world renowned for their unwavering dedication to excellence across every step of the winemaking process. The from first pick off the vine, to the moment it hits your palate, Montalbera treat the grape’s journey with mastery and care, putting the fruit at the centre of their process, to truly extract the uniqueness of this incredible region.
