The Librandi winery is a modern enterprise founded in 1950, but the family has been working with wines for centuries. Four generations of wine-growers lie behind Antonio and Nicodemo Librandi and their nephews Raffaele and Walter, who remain faithful to the principles that inspired their forefathers.
The Librandi brothers run the winery themselves so as to stay in close contact with their land and their wines, without giving up the benefits offered by advanced techniques and administrative systems. "The future of our wine depends on our ability to meld tradition with innovation, without the one overcoming the other": this is the Librandi philosophy.
This wine is made from 100% Greco Bianco, a white varietal brought to Calabria by the ancient Greeks that is now rarely seen.
From the Azienda Critone in agro di Strongoli e Rosaneti in agro di Rocca di Neto/Casabona, and harvested at the end of August, first week of September.
Aged in stainless steel, with an additional bottle ageing of a few months.
Duca San Felice is the name of the oldest vineyard owned by the Librandi family and the last one planted by Raffaele Librandi, the father of Antonio and Nicodemo. This vineyard is situated in the heart of the Ponta territory, which is considered one of the oldest and most important crus of the classic Cirò area.
It is made entirely from Gaglioppo, a key indigenous variety that is thought to have been introduced from Greece to southern Italy around the same time as Aglianico.
This is a "Super Calabrian" wine made from the indigenous Gaglioppo and international Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Gravello is a fantasy name, but "grave" in Italian means "serious" and "important," which is a reference to the complexity and sophistication of this wine. The suffix of "-ello" makes this meaning a bit lighter, as the wine is accessible and drinking beautifully right now.
